LIFE AT CAMP
Each counselor at Mah-Kee-Nac has a dual role.
Days are spent coaching or instructing in your area of expertise while evenings are
spent with your campers at fun special events and nightly activities. Counselors must be patient, fun-loving and genuinely
concerned with the welfare
and development of young people. We are looking for role models for our campers.
At Mah-Kee-Nac each counselor is a member of several teams, each headed by an experienced camp leader. Our leadership
staff is comprised of dedicated teachers, coaches and recreation professionals.

About 8-10 campers and 2-3 counselors live in each cabin. The counselors' job is to encourage friendship, spirit
and camaraderie and to be sensitive to individual and group situations. Veteran key staff and returning counselors
are always ready to help.
The cabins are clustered in rows by "Tribes", with two or three age groups, making up a campus that is overseen
by a Tribal Head. Counselors work together on evening activities, special events and trips.
Every counselor at Mah-Kee-Nac is a program specialist as well as a cabin counselor. As an instructor you would work
with other counselors who share your specialty, under the guidance of a Program Head.
Working with children is rewarding, but draining. We build free time into the schedule to "recharge your batteries."
This includes 1-2 hours each day, most nights after camper bedtimes, and both an early evening and a day off during
each week of camp.
