Once all our campers arrive, it’s friendships first. You will meet your bunkmates and counselors right away. Together, everyone will go through an orientation where you’ll learn about the camp’s routines, rules, and safety protocols. The staff is dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere, so don’t be afraid to ask questions or share any concerns you have. They are there to help and can provide the support that you need to feel comfortable and safe.
2. A Close-Knit Community
Camp Mah-Kee-Nac is known for fostering a strong sense of brotherhood. Since it’s an all-boys camp, you’ll be surrounded by peers your age, and this creates a unique bond among the campers. Quickly you will find yourself building a sense of comradery with your fellow campers as you embark on new and exciting adventures together. From mornings spent on the fields and lake and afternoons spent on the hiking trails to challenges on the ropes course, you will be experiencing everything together with your fellow campers. Since Camp Mah-Kee-Nac is surrounded by beautiful forests and lakes, outdoor adventure is a big part of the camp experience. You’ll get to enjoy a variety of activities such as hiking, swimming, canoeing, and archery. Some days might even include a trip to the ropes course or a nature walk to explore the camp’s surroundings.
From enjoying long afternoons out on the lake, to zip-lining through the forest, there is never a shortage of amount spent outside here at Camp. There are tons of amazing places to enjoy on the Camp MKN grounds, but campers will also get to enjoy day trips to places like Six Flags and Zoom Flume, attend sporting events, and spend plenty of time hiking, rock climbing, and white water rafting through the surrounding areas.
Our older campers will enjoy the opportunity to take an overnight trip spent exploring somewhere completely new. Rising 11th graders take an exciting and immersive trip to Costa Rica, where they are able to explore and experience the culture of San Jose.
4. Personal Growth and New Skills
One of the greatest things about Camp Mah-Kee-Nac is the focus on personal development. You’ll be encouraged to try new things, step outside of your comfort zone, and push yourself in ways you might not have thought possible. Whether it’s perfecting your shot on the basketball court, learning how to kayak, or mastering a new skill at the arts and crafts center, the camp environment is designed to help you grow.
Each day is filled with scheduled activities designed to keep you engaged and active. From sports like soccer and basketball to water activities on the camp’s pristine lake, you’ll have plenty of options to choose from.
You’ll also participate in team-building exercises and group activities, which help you develop leadership skills and foster camaraderie among your fellow campers. You’ll also have the chance to build leadership skills through various group activities and challenges. The counselors and staff are there to guide you, offering support and encouragement every step of the way.

Camp Mah-Kee-Nac was founded in 1929 and has been passing on traditions from generation to generation ever since. Every year we welcome sons, nephews, and grandsons of former campers that want to pass down the beloved memories that they created at Camp.
As a first-time camper, you’ll quickly learn about what makes a summer at Camp MKN unique. You’ll take part in camp-wide events like the beloved Green and White, Olympics and Founders Cup, weekly huddles, polar bear plunges, races, day trips, and so much more.
