Another great week here at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac as our first session came to a close.
Over the course of the week, we had multiple events to bring our annual Stockbridge Series to a close. Earlier in the summer, the marathon was the first scoring event of the series. From there, Watermelon and disc golf began their qualifying rounds. This week, we saw the finals for disc golf and Watermelon as well as all rounds of Tramp Ball. Campers could compete in whatever events they wanted but usually must compete in every event to get enough points to be declared the overall winner. After all the games were completed and the scores tallied, we had one all-camp Stockbridge Series winner and separate LSR and TJC leaders. Congrats to Jake B. the Stockbridge Series 2025 Champ!
We also hosted our annual Archery Tournament for the 27th year in a row. Many different camps came to participate, and we once again earned the highest score – our 27th time!
One of our annual favorite intra-camp events is the “Canada” vs. “USA” roller hockey game. Our hockey players were slotted onto one of the two teams and played an intense game while the rest of camp cheered them on. USA came out with a commanding lead, but in the end, Canada was our big winner.
Mid-week we had our first trip day of the summer! TJC slipped and slid the day away at Zoom Flume – New York’s #1 family-friendly water park. Meanwhile, LSR and USR got their thrills on with the speedy coasters and rides at Six Flags! Campers enjoyed lots of treats today too!
We also spent some quality time with our sister camp, Danbee. We teamed up with them for a co-ed swim meet at Camp Greylock and we won! We also hosted a brother sister lunch, and the sibs got to give each other big hugs. And back at camp after trip day, our older campers had socials with the Danbee girls while the TJCs had a special night making S’mores with the Senecas.
We also had our third summer huddle. All of the campers gathered around the fire and Jamie gave special shoutouts for campers and staff who have shown particularly excellent leadership skills. We also handed out the commemorative legacy gifts for campers who’ve been here for three years, five years, and eight years.
We ended the week with a wonderful visiting day on Saturday. Parents came from far and wide to spend the day with our kids and enjoy the beautiful Berkshires weather and our beautiful camp! We had a lovely day of family tennis games, Tramp Ball, playing in the lake, rock climbing, pickleball, basketball, and more. And all of the families gathered around to see one lucky birthday camper “catch his cake” (then smush it in his face).
Sunday was the last day of our first session, and while we had a lot of fun events, there was also a twinge of sadness in the air for those who’d be leaving us. The All-Star basketball game was a great distraction. A select group of campers drafts two teams of players:
Stockbridge Snappers vs. the Bullard Woods Bears. The game was intense and close, and in the end, the Bullard Woods Bears won by only one point!
That night was the all-camp sing. Each age groups came together to compose and perform a song and chant, and to craft a plaque representing their group. After very thorough judging of the art and entertainment, Navajos were declared the big winners!
That’s it for week four. Don’t forget, family & friends can get MKN news every day on MKN Today. Be sure to create an account and read all about the daily happenings at camp.
