Week in Review #6 2023

Camp Mah-Kee-NacAug 10, 2023

Week six at Camp Mah-Kee-Nac was filled with talent, play, travel, and formula one race cars!

Just before the Senecas and Algonquins returned to camp and the others headed out on trips, we began the week with a bang!  We hosted the first ever “Mah-Kee-Nac’s Got Talent”. There was singing, dancing, guitar and keyboard, magic, tumbling, and more!

Over the next few days, the remaining Upper Seniors and the Lower Seniors began their travels. The Cherokees – our entering 9th graders – took an amazing trip to Maine. They saw Old Orchard Beach, went white water rafting, visited Kimballs Farm, tried SkyVenture – an indoor skydiving and surfing center, and dined at the famed “Great Lost Bear.” Cheyennes – our entering 8th graders – went to Boston and enjoyed a tour of Fenway Park, Newbury Street, and Faneuil Hall Marketplace on Boston’s historic Freedom Trail. They also saw The Museum of Science, Quincy Market and Codzilla – a Boston Thrill Boat.

The Navajos (entering 7th) headed to Upstate New York for two days. They went White Water Rafting, took a cruise on Lake George, played mini golf, and went to Great Escape Fun Park. Lastly, our youngest overnight travelers, the Mohicans (entering 6th) – had a fun visit to The Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. While there, they also got to visit the Cooperstown Bat Company.   And they finished the trip with a fun visit to Howe Caverns and Zoom Flume Water Park!

Back at camp, the TJCs quite enjoyed running the place. We hosted a “play day” with Camp Winadu and competed in basketball, soccer, baseball, and kickball!  They also played beach soccer, and had a Derby Day where they designed F1 Cars out of cardboard and raced them on a track built around camp. They also took some day trips of their own, including going to the The Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts and out to see the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mania movie!

We had fun while we were out, but once everyone returned back home, we felt complete again. We finally held our famous “HaTric” event, which had been rained out twice so far!! Everyone was excited to participate in this big offense/defense style tennis tournament, we played for hours!

The week ended with our huge, exciting Olympics kick-off! Stay tuned this week for all the exciting details of the official games.
